Event 1: Volunteer at the L.A. Regional Food Bank on Saturday, January 17
2 weeks ago, in just a few days, we collected food for the Food Bank, gathering nearly a ton of food and raising more than $1,600 in online donations. The response to that activity was incredible, earning us front page coverage on the Daily News edition on Wednesday, Dec. 24. (See photo on left; you can read the whole story at this link.)
You can still join our virtual food drive and make a donation online! Each dollar you give translates to 4 meals, each dollar buys 5 pounds of food. You can still make a tax-deductible donation to our "ComunityOrganize-San Fernando Valley" Virtual Food Drive at this link. You can also ask friends & neighbors to donate via this Virtual Food Drive.
As part of Obama's call for National Days of Service leading up to the Inauguration on Tuesday, January 20, all Obama volunteers throughout the L.A. area are asked to volunteer at the L.A. Regional Food Bank, on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 8:45 am to noon. We'll be putting together food packages for those in need. PLEASE JOIN US! YES WE CAN!

Event 2: Winter Coat & Blanket Drive Saturday, January 17-Monday, January 19
Even in L.A. it can get bitterly cold at night. We need everyone to look in their closets and ask their friends and neighbors to do the same to find coats and blankets for those in need. The items we collect will be cleaned and then donated to the Guadalupe Center in Canoga Park and One Generation in Van Nuys, serving seniors, families and children. This service activity was suggested by Jodi Sisson, whose home will be one of the drop-off locations. We need more homes as drop-off locations, so please email Jodi to volunteer your home.
